A critic once said in her review 'It's small. It's real. And it's deeply moving.'
The Iranian film 'A Separation' left me speechless from the single first courtroom scene to the last satisfying beautiful silent scene. Asghar Farhadi the brilliant director and writer behind this magnificent Iranian's drama did a unique and steady dialogues that never ever gets you board off, the film's screenplay is a one huge perfect separated act in a way that takes you. It's without a doubt the best original screenplay of the year so far. It is an Oscar worthy. It passes the brilliant writing from Woody's beautiful work in 'Midnight In Paris' and the slow moving writing from Jeff Nichols's masterpiece 'Take Shelter'. Asghar's direction and writing are painfully stunning, It ties you and make you live the ordinary families behaviors of feeling, sadness, touching, challenges and complexity. It touches you with 'no matter what, being together is much much stronger'. It's an unbelievable impressive work form Asghar.
The ensemble did an extraordinary performances. It's without a doubt an acting at its finest. Peyman Maadi, Leila Hatami, Sareh Bayat and Shahab Hosseini were pure perfection. they all deserve an Oscar nomination except Bayat she defiantly deserve the win. The brilliant compiling cast deals with family duty, loyalty, pride and religion in a two hours work of art of screen writing. The emotional feelings between them are high, the breakdowns themes are believable, the character are unlikeable yet likeable and definitely the way it develops from the first loud courtroom scene to the last silent courtroom scene.
It's sharp editing is a powerful art of cinema, It's is a very simple movie on the first look but as it moves on and when it ends, it acts like the most challenging and complex film, and yet a faster than a speed of light. So at last I would say the three most powerful things about the film are, the well written screenplay, the magnificent cast, and the complex and brilliant editing with the lack of a score.
'A Separation' is a near perfect film that should the Best Foreign language film. and with a doubt show have been nominated for a Best Picture as well.
